About

Thank you for taking the time to find out more about Canton Baptist Church and our community. Our desire is to Worship withOut Walls (WoW!) – walls that separate us such as tradition, stereotypes, culture, and socioeconomic status. WOW! We’re tearing down walls that divide us such as race, age, self-righteous facades, and long lists of do’s and don’ts. Our desire is to be a vibrant local community church where all are welcome in an environment that is conducive to experiencing encounters with an awesome loving God. We want to be real and transparent while providing a safe harbor to share in God’s love and Grace on the journey. God calls us to love each other because of who we are and not in spite of who we are. You are God’s creation and he has a purpose for your life. Come join us for one hour on Sunday morning that could change your whole life. Service at 10:30, 3302 Toone Street. We’re still here and we want to get to know all of our neighbors.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to Worship, Love, and Serve without walls. This is also our Process.  We gather on Sundays to worship where all are welcome. We then meet in small groups throughout the week to learn to know and love one one another and then together we seek to serve. Through this we desire to make and mature disciples of Jesus Christ. We seek to significantly impact our culture through real worship, open fellowship, ministering to needs, and sincere outreach to those far from God.

The Food Bank is open during all published office ours by appoint and/or referral. In addition to supporting our church members in need, we receive referrals for DSS on Bank Street, other churches, businesses and organizations in the neighborhood, and from our members.

Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets are also prepared for families in need. Requests may be made through DSS or by mailing a letter to the church office.

The Dock @ Canton
Our outdoor venue, “The Dock” is used for community events, concerts and outdoor worship every Sunday. Persons can sit outside and see and hear everything going on inside via large screen televisions displaying a camera view of the inside and the scripture and song lyrics with stereo speakers for sound. And, our outdoor worshipers my bring their dog. Yes, dogs are welcome on Sunday mornings for outdoor worship.

There is a place for you at Canton Baptist Church
God has SHAPED each of us to minister in some unique capacity. Rick Warren defined the acronym or acrostic SHAPE which very

clearly communicates how each of us is uniquely equipped for some ministry:

S – Each person has been given at least one Spiritual gift by God. We can help you determine yours if you don’t know what it is.

H – God has also given each of us a passion or Heart for something. What is your passion? what makes your heart beat? What makes you tick?

A – Each of us have abilities. Some have a few and others have many. God has blessed us with the ability to do things. What are you good at?

P – Everyone has a different personality and some personalities are better suited for certain things than others. Your personality is part of who you are. Who are you?

E – Finally, our experiences, both good and bad, form us and give us our perspective. We can use our experiences and hurts to help others. Only someone who has gone through what you have been through can really help someone who is going through the same thing. What can you help someone else through? God never waists a hurt.

At Canton we want you to be free to use what God has graciously SHAPED you to be to minister to others.

A Community of Faith

Since its organization in 1845 in Augusta, Georgia, the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) has grown to over 16 million members who worship in more than 42,000 churches in the United States. Southern Baptists sponsor about 5,000 home missionaries serving the United States, Canada, Guam and the Caribbean, as well as sponsoring more than 5,000 foreign missionaries in 153 nations of the world.

The term “Southern Baptist Convention” refers to both the denomination and its annual meeting. Working through 1,200 local associations and 41 state conventions and fellowships, Southern Baptists share a common bond of basic Biblical beliefs and a commitment to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the entire world.

You become a Southern Baptist by uniting with a Southern Baptist church, one in friendly cooperation with the general Southern Baptist enterprise of reaching the world for Christ. Typically church membership is a matter of accepting Jesus as your Savior and Lord and experiencing believer’s baptism by immersion
